PostHog Pricing for Session Replay, Events and Add-ons in 2026
See why your users leave. Session replay, heatmaps, funnels and an AI researcher, from $99 a month.
PostHog pricing in 2026 is usage based. The free tier covers 1 million analytics events, 5,000 web session recordings and 1,500 survey responses a month. Past that you pay per unit with falling rates: web session replay costs $0.005 per recording up to 15,000, then $0.0035, $0.002, $0.0017 and finally $0.0015 per recording above 500,000. That makes 10,000 recordings about $25 a month and 100,000 recordings about $273 a month, before events, surveys, AI credits or optional platform add-ons that start at $250 a month.
The numbers below come from PostHog's public pricing data, read in October 2026. PostHog adjusts tiers often, so check posthog.com/pricing before you budget. The goal here is the question a buyer actually has: what will my invoice look like at my traffic, and where does it jump.
PostHog pricing at a glance
| Product | Free each month | First paid rate | Lowest published rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product analytics events | 1 million | Per event, tiered | Falls with volume |
| Web session replay | 5,000 recordings | $0.005 per recording | $0.0015 per recording above 500,000 |
| Mobile session replay | 2,500 recordings | $0.01 per recording | $0.003 per recording |
| Surveys | 1,500 responses | $0.10 per response up to 2,000 | Lower tiers above that |
Feature flags, experiments, error tracking and data pipelines are billed separately in the same pay as you go way. You set a billing limit, and usage stops at the limit instead of overspending.
How much does PostHog session replay cost?
PostHog session replay costs nothing for the first 5,000 web recordings a month, then $0.005 per recording up to 15,000, $0.0035 up to 50,000, $0.002 up to 150,000, $0.0017 up to 500,000 and $0.0015 beyond. At 100,000 recordings that is about $273 a month. At 500,000 it is about $968, and at 2 million about $3,218.
| Recordings per month | PostHog web replay cost | Effective cost per 1,000 |
|---|---|---|
| 5,000 | $0 | $0.00 |
| 10,000 | About $25 | $2.50 |
| 25,000 | About $85 | $3.40 |
| 50,000 | About $173 | $3.45 |
| 100,000 | About $273 | $2.73 |
| 150,000 | About $373 | $2.48 |
| 500,000 | About $968 | $1.94 |
| 1,000,000 | About $1,718 | $1.72 |
| 2,000,000 | About $3,218 | $1.61 |
Those figures are replay only. A product team that also sends a few million events and collects survey answers will pay for each of those on top, which is why PostHog bills are hard to forecast from the replay line alone.
How long does PostHog keep session recordings?
PostHog keeps recordings for 1 month on the free tier and 90 days on pay as you go. Extending that to up to one year needs the Boost or Scale add-on, and five years needs Enterprise. Add-ons cost $250, $750 and $2,000 a month for Boost, Scale and Enterprise, with a Teams add-on at $450.
Retention is where small replay bills grow. A team that wants to watch last quarter's checkout recordings before a redesign pays the add-on, not just the per recording rate.
Is PostHog free?
Yes, up to the monthly limits. No card is needed for the free tier, which covers 1 million events, 5,000 web recordings and 1,500 survey responses for one project. Usage stops at those limits until you add a card and move to pay as you go billing, so a growing site hits the paid rates quickly.
What changes your PostHog bill most
- Autocapture and event volume. Every click and pageview is an event. A busy site can pass 1 million events well before it reaches 20,000 sessions.
- Recording rate. Recording every session at 100,000 monthly visitors costs about $273. Sampling to 20 percent cuts it, but you then watch fewer of the sessions that matter.
- Retention add-ons. Anything past 90 days costs at least $250 a month.
- AI features. Replay summaries and PostHog AI use credits after a free allowance.
- Who does the analysis. The tool is cheap per unit because your team builds the insights. The hidden cost is the hours.
What the same traffic costs with a flat plan
UserExplorer is priced per plan instead of per recording. Startup covers 10,000 sessions at $99 a month or $49 billed yearly. Growth covers 100,000 sessions at $499 a month or $249 billed yearly, with surveys and profiles. Scale covers 500,000 sessions at $1,499 monthly or $749 yearly with API access. Replay, heatmaps, funnels and form analytics are in every plan.
On replay alone PostHog is cheaper at almost every volume, and it is the better buy for feature flags, experiments and native mobile apps. The case for a flat plan is different: the bill is one number, the form analytics and funnels need no event plan, and an AI researcher reads the recordings and reports why visitors drop off. Teams that want it side by side can read the full PostHog alternative comparison. If your analysts ask data questions in plain language, a tool like an AI data analyst that answers questions in plain English removes the SQL step that makes PostHog insights slow for non engineers.
Which plan fits which team
| Team | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Engineers who want flags, experiments and errors in one stack | PostHog | Cheapest per unit, one platform |
| Mobile app first product | PostHog | Native iOS, Android, React Native and Flutter replay |
| Product or growth team without an analyst | UserExplorer | Answers without building queries, fixed price |
| Store or SaaS signup with a leaky form | UserExplorer | Field level form analytics on every plan |
| Tiny site under 5,000 sessions | PostHog free tier | Zero cost while it fits |
Frequently asked questions
How much does PostHog cost per month?
PostHog costs $0 on the free tier and then scales with usage. Web replay alone is about $25 for 10,000 recordings and about $273 for 100,000. Add events, surveys, AI credits and any add-on, which starts at $250 a month, and a mid sized product team commonly lands in the high hundreds or low thousands a month.
Does PostHog charge per user or per event?
Per usage, not per seat. You pay per event, per recording, per survey response and per exception, so adding a teammate costs nothing, while adding traffic does. That suits large teams on small sites and punishes small teams on large sites.
Is PostHog cheaper than Hotjar or FullStory?
For session replay at most volumes, yes. PostHog charges about $273 for 100,000 recordings, while Hotjar and FullStory price by plan and sessions. See the Hotjar pricing and FullStory pricing breakdowns for their ladders. Cheaper per recording does not mean cheaper overall once analyst time is counted.
Can I set a spending limit on PostHog?
Yes. PostHog lets you set a billing limit per product, and usage stops once you reach it. That protects the invoice, but you lose recordings for the rest of the month, so set the limit above your expected volume.
