Mouseflow alternative for teams that outgrew the funnel and website caps

Mouseflow is a good, cheap recorder until you need a second funnel, a second website or more than 100,000 sessions a month. Then the price jumps a tier or turns into a sales quote. UserExplorer is a Mouseflow alternative with 10 funnels on the smallest plan and no funnel cap above it, session replay, heatmaps and form analytics on every plan, published prices up to 2 million sessions, and an AI researcher that reads the recordings and tells you why people leave.

The funnel tax

A second funnel should not quadruple the bill

Here is the pattern we hear most. A store or SaaS site records 4,000 sessions a month, which fits Mouseflow Essential at $25 a month on annual billing. Then the team wants to watch checkout and the newsletter signup at the same time, or add the help center as a second site. Both needs land on Advanced, $109 to $149 a month, even though traffic did not change.

UserExplorer prices by recorded sessions and gives you the analysis around them. Startup includes 10 funnels and form analytics, and every funnel analysis step opens the replays of the people who dropped there. From Growth up there is no funnel cap at all.

We are not the cheaper option at 5,000 sessions, and we will not pretend to be. We become the better value when you need several funnels, more than one property, surveys next to the recordings, or a team that cannot spend hours watching videos.

What you get

What changes on day one after you switch

Recordings you do not have to hunt for

Session replay marks rage clicks, dead clicks and JavaScript errors on the timeline, so you jump to the second that matters instead of scrubbing.

Every funnel you want to watch

Checkout, signup, onboarding and the returns flow at the same time. Each step opens the sessions of the people who left.

Heatmaps per segment

Open a website heatmap and split it by device, traffic source or visitors who reached checkout and quit.

Field level form analytics

See which field makes buyers hesitate, retype or abandon, on every plan rather than only the top tiers.

Answers instead of a pile of videos

Ask why mobile checkout dropped last week. The AI researcher ranks the causes by sessions affected and links the proof.

Surveys next to the behavior

From Growth, NPS and on page surveys sit beside the replay of the same visitor, with AI follow up interviews.

Less watching

The real cost of a recorder is the hours spent watching it

At 25,000 sessions a month, a 2 percent sample is still 500 recordings. A marketer who spends six hours a week on that costs far more than any subscription in this comparison. Mouseflow helps you sort with its friction score and Mina AI. UserExplorer goes one step further and does the reading.

You ask a plain question, such as which step of the trial signup loses the most mobile visitors and why. The AI user research assistant goes through the sessions, groups the causes, counts how many visits each one hurt and attaches the replays that prove it. You watch five recordings instead of fifty, and you walk into the meeting with a ranked list.

Honest fit

When you should stay on Mouseflow

Security lead reading a printout with personal data blacked out

Stay if you record under 5,000 sessions a month, one funnel is enough and price is the main criterion. Mouseflow Essential at $25 a month is hard to beat, and the free plan is fine for checking a single landing page. Stay too if many people need read only access and you do not want to count seats, because every Mouseflow plan has unlimited users.

Neither tool records native iOS or Android apps, so a mobile first product needs a tool built around app SDKs regardless.

Switch when funnels, websites or volume keep forcing an upgrade you did not plan for, when you need prices you can approve without a sales call above 100,000 sessions, or when nobody has time to watch the recordings you are paying for. If privacy review is part of procurement, see how masking and consent work on the GDPR session replay page.

Migration

How to switch from Mouseflow in one afternoon

Run both scripts for two to four weeks so you keep a baseline.

  1. Step 1

Export what you want to keep

Download saved reports and pull data through the Mouseflow REST API on plans that include it. Recordings stay in Mouseflow and do not move to any other vendor.

  2. Step 2

    Install the UserExplorer snippet

Create an account, check out online and paste one script into your site or tag manager next to the Mouseflow code. Inputs are masked in the browser by default.

  3. Step 3

    Rebuild funnels and heatmaps

Recreate checkout, signup and the funnels you could not afford before, then open heatmaps for your top landing and product pages.

  4. Step 4

    Compare, then remove Mouseflow

After a few weeks, ask the AI researcher where users struggle most, check it against what you already knew, and take the old script out.

FAQ

Questions teams ask before replacing Mouseflow

What is the best alternative to Mouseflow?

For websites and web apps that need more funnels, several properties or more than 100,000 sessions at a published price, UserExplorer is a strong Mouseflow alternative, with replay, heatmaps, funnels, form analytics and an AI researcher from $49 a month billed yearly. For a no cost recorder, Microsoft Clarity works. For native mobile apps, pick a tool with mobile SDKs.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Mouseflow?

At small volume, usually not among paid tools. Mouseflow Essential costs $25 a month billed yearly for 5,000 sessions. UserExplorer becomes cheaper once you would need Mouseflow Premium or Enterprise, because Growth covers 100,000 sessions with uncapped funnels for $249 a month billed yearly and Scale covers 500,000 for $749.

What are Mouseflow competitors?

The tools most often compared with Mouseflow are Hotjar, Microsoft Clarity, FullStory, Lucky Orange, Crazy Egg, LogRocket, Smartlook (being shut down by Cisco) and UserExplorer. They differ mostly in session pricing, funnel limits, mobile app support and how much analysis they do for you.

Can I move my Mouseflow recordings to another tool?

No. Session recordings are stored in each vendor's own format and cannot be imported elsewhere. You can download saved reports and pull data through the Mouseflow REST API where your plan includes it. A new tool records from the day its snippet goes live, so run both in parallel for a few weeks.

Does UserExplorer have unlimited users like Mouseflow?

Not on the smaller plans. Startup includes 3 seats and Growth includes 10. Scale and Enterprise have unlimited seats. If dozens of people only need to view recordings and you record little traffic, Mouseflow's unlimited users on every plan is a real advantage.

Does UserExplorer record mobile apps?

No. UserExplorer records websites and web apps, including single page apps and visits from mobile browsers, the same scope as Mouseflow. Teams whose main product is a native iOS or Android app should choose a mobile focused tool.
