Hotjar pricing now lives on the Contentsquare pricing page. Since the merger, hotjar.com/pricing redirects there, and the heatmaps and recordings Hotjar was known for are sold as the Experience Analytics product. It has a Free plan, a Growth plan from $49 a month for 7,000 sessions that rises to $739 a month for 200,000 sessions, and quote only Pro and Enterprise plans. Surveys are priced separately, from $99 a month.

Those numbers come from the live Contentsquare pricing page, checked in October 2026. Below you will find the full Growth price ladder, what the Free plan really covers, how the separate survey product adds to the bill, and what the same traffic costs with a tool that records every session and reads them with AI.

Hotjar plans at a glance

The old Hotjar lineup (Observe, Ask and Engage, each with Basic, Plus, Business and Scale tiers) has been folded into two Contentsquare products that matter for most Hotjar buyers. Experience Analytics covers heatmaps, session replay, journeys and frustration signals. Voice of Customer covers surveys and feedback. Each has its own plan and its own bill.

PlanExperience Analytics (heatmaps and replay)Voice of Customer (surveys)
Free$0, listed with 200,000 monthly sessions and 10,000 replays$0, 100 responses a month
GrowthFrom $49 a month for 7,000 sessions up to $739 for 200,000From $99 a month for 500 responses up to $1,479 for 100,000
ProQuote onlyQuote only, from 6,000 responses a year
EnterpriseQuote onlyNot listed separately

The page has a yearly billing toggle labeled "Save 20%", so a team that commits for twelve months pays about a fifth less than the monthly list price. If you are on a legacy Hotjar plan from before the switch, your renewal may still show the old tiers. Third party reviews in 2026 still quote legacy Plus at $32, Business at $80 and Scale at $171 a month, but those plans are no longer what a new buyer sees.

How much does Hotjar cost per month?

Hotjar costs between $49 and $739 a month on the Growth plan, depending on how many sessions you track. A small site with 7,000 sessions pays $49, a store with 30,000 pays $159, and a site with 100,000 sessions pays $409 a month before the yearly discount. Add $99 or more if you also want surveys.

Here is the full Growth ladder for Experience Analytics as the page lists it. Pay attention to the replay column, because it stops growing long before the session column does.

The replay cap is the number to watch

Sessions and replays are counted separately on the new plans. Up to 20,000 sessions you get a replay for every session. Past that point, the session count keeps climbing while replays stay at 20,000 until the 150,000 tier. At 100,000 monthly sessions you pay $409 and can watch one visit in five.

For a marketing site that only needs heatmaps, that is fine, since the heatmap uses all sessions. For a checkout or onboarding flow it matters a lot. The visit where a buyer hit the broken coupon field has a four in five chance of not being recorded. Teams that rely on session replay to debug conversion problems should price the plan by replays needed, not by sessions tracked.

Is Hotjar still free?

Yes, there is still a free plan. It sits under the Contentsquare brand now and is listed with 200,000 monthly sessions and 10,000 replays for heatmaps and recordings, plus 100 survey responses a month on the feedback side. Paid plans add longer data retention, more replays, integrations and support.

The free plan is a reasonable way to test the script on a small site. Most businesses outgrow it because of retention and replay limits rather than features, and once you add surveys you are paying for two products.

What raises a Hotjar bill

  • Two products, two subscriptions. Heatmaps and recordings are one plan. Surveys and feedback widgets are another, starting at $99 a month for 500 responses. A team that used Hotjar for both will see two line items.
  • Traffic growth. Pricing steps up with tracked sessions. A seasonal spike can push you into a higher tier, so check how the plan treats overages before your busy month.
  • Replays beyond 20,000. If you need more recordings than the tier includes, the only path is a larger tier or a Pro quote.
  • Pro and Enterprise features. Larger allowances, advanced integrations and account support move you into quote only plans, where the price depends on negotiation.

Is Hotjar worth the money?

Hotjar is worth it for marketers who want heatmaps on landing pages and a handful of recordings each week, especially on the free or low Growth tiers. It is a weaker deal when your traffic passes 20,000 sessions and you need every visit recorded, or when nobody on the team has time to watch the replays you do get.

That last point is where most of the cost actually hides. A recording tool charges for data, and your team pays again in hours spent watching. If a product manager spends a day a week reviewing sessions, that time costs more than the subscription. This is the gap an AI researcher closes, and it is the main reason teams compare alternatives, as we cover on our Hotjar alternative page.

Hotjar pricing compared with UserExplorer

UserExplorer publishes four plans and records every session up to the plan limit. Each plan includes heatmaps, funnels, form analytics and session replay on the same data, and an AI researcher that reads the sessions and answers questions with the replays as evidence. Surveys, NPS and user profiles are included from Growth, not sold as a second product.

10,000 sessions$69 a month, 10,000 replays, no surveysStartup at $99 monthly or $49 billed yearly, 10,000 recorded sessions, 50 AI analyses
100,000 sessions$409 a month, 20,000 replays, surveys from $99 extraGrowth at $499 monthly or $249 billed yearly, 100,000 recorded sessions, surveys and NPS included, 400 AI analyses
200,000 to 500,000 sessions$739 a month for 200,000 with 30,000 replays, custom above 240,000Scale at $1,499 monthly or $749 billed yearly, 500,000 recorded sessions, EU or US hosting

Be fair about where each side wins. At 10,000 sessions on monthly billing, Hotjar is cheaper, and its free plan has no equivalent with us (we offer a one time demo of 500 sessions or 7 days instead). From about 30,000 sessions up, and especially when you need surveys too, UserExplorer gives you more recorded visits for the money and does the watching for you. Full plan details are on our pricing page.

How to choose a plan without overpaying

Start from the question you need answered, not the feature list. If you want to know where people click on three landing pages, Hotjar Free or low Growth will do. If you need to know why checkout conversion dropped last week, you need every checkout session recorded and a fast way to read them.

  1. Pull your monthly sessions from your analytics tool and add 20 percent for growth.
  2. Decide how many of those visits must be recorded. For checkout and signup flows, the answer is usually all of them.
  3. Count whether you need surveys. On Contentsquare that is a second subscription.
  4. Estimate the hours your team will spend watching replays each month and put a dollar value on them.
  5. Compare the total, not the headline price.

Vendors change their price lists often, and Hotjar has changed its model twice in two years. If you are budgeting for a renewal, it helps to monitor competitor pricing pages so a quiet change does not surprise you at signing. Frequently asked questions about Hotjar pricing

Did Contentsquare buy Hotjar?

Yes. Contentsquare acquired Hotjar in 2021 and has since merged the products. In 2026 hotjar.com/pricing redirects to the Contentsquare pricing page, where Hotjar's heatmaps and recordings are sold as Experience Analytics and its surveys as Voice of Customer.

How much is Hotjar per year?

On the Growth plan, Hotjar costs about $470 a year at 7,000 sessions and about $3,930 a year at 100,000 sessions after the 20 percent yearly discount on the listed monthly prices. Surveys add at least $950 a year on the same discount. Pro and Enterprise contracts are quoted individually.

Does Hotjar charge per user?

No. Hotjar plans on Contentsquare are priced by tracked sessions and replays for analytics and by responses for surveys, not by seats. The main cost drivers are traffic and whether you buy both products.

What is a good alternative if Hotjar gets too expensive?

If you need every session recorded and someone to make sense of them, UserExplorer records 100,000 sessions on Growth and its AI researcher explains drop-offs with evidence replays. For a no cost recorder, Microsoft Clarity is the usual pick. For feedback, our NPS and survey software is part of the Growth plan.
